The Utah roundmouth snail, also known as the Utah valvata or desert valvata,〔(''Valvata utahensis'' ). ITIS, accessed 19 November 2008〕 scientific name ''Valvata utahensis'', is a species of freshwater snail with a gill and an operculum, an aquatic gastropod mollusk in the family Valvatidae, the valve snails. This species of snail is endemic to the United States. The common name refers to the State of Utah. == Taxonomy == This species was first described as ''Valvata sincera'' var. ''utahensis'' by Richard Ellsworth Call (1856-1917, U.S.A.) in 1884 from specimens collected at Utah Lake, Utah (the type locality).〔 R. E. Call elevated ''Valvata utahensis'' to species level in 1886〔Call R. E. (1886). "On certain recent, quaternary, and new fresh-water Mollusca".
